Continental Clinical Solutions, LLC

6600 York Road, Suite 104 Baltimore, Maryland 21212Continental Clinical Solutions was formed under the premise that advances in medical science are supported by diversity in patient populations, experience in the collection of data, commitment to high ethical standards and humane treatment of participating patients. At Continental, closing the gap for underrepresented patient populations in clinical trial recruitment is one of our pillars of success. From a recruitment standpoint, we know the metrics of patient diversity are defined by factors which include, among many factors, race, class, age and gender. Specific patient groups and their subsets are historically underrepresented. Historic underrepresentation translates into limitations and omissions in treatments for all potential patients for future generations to come. Reducing the disparities of patient populations in clinical trials is addressed by our outreach to community practitioners, our informed and diverse recruitment as well as our accessible trial sites and trial results. Continental Clinical Solutions is dedicated to insuring the broad growth of clinical research through diversity of inclusion.

NIH NCI CCR - Laboratory of Cancer Biology and Genetics

Bethesda, MD, 20814 United StatesThe Laboratory of Cancer Biology and Genetics (LCBG) self-assembled in 2006 through the merger of the Laboratory of Cellular Carcinogenesis and Tumor Promotion (LCCTP), the Laboratory of Cell Regulation and Carcinogenesis (LCRC) and the Laboratory of Genetics (LG). The LCBG currently encompasses the work of 12 principal investigators supervising independent research programs with highly overlapping experimental goals and approaches. These investigators conduct a well integrated research program consisting of basic and translational components that are designed to: elucidate the cellular and tissue changes associated with specific stages of carcinogenesis, detect and characterize genetic modifiers fundamental to cancer susceptibility and progression, define the molecular mechanisms involved in the pathogenesis of major human cancers, and develop rational approaches for cancer prevention and treatment. Studies are performed in vivo in animal models, in vitro in cell and organ culture, and on tissues and cells obtained from human volunteers and cancer patients. The LCBG also develops and correlates novel protocols in molecular diagnostics for human and animal tissues, and in noninvasive medical imaging for animal models. Emanating from our studies are new therapeutic combinations for targeted cancers now in clinical trials. The LCBG operates a novel University-NCI graduate partnership research training program in comparative molecular pathology, including both Ph.D. granting and non-degree fellowships.

The Acute Studies Core will further develop a consortium of local sites for expansion of studies with acute patients and for recruitment of those patients into subsequent CNRM studies. Studies of acute TBI patients are critical to perform in local civilian sites to exploit advanced technologies and perform interventional studies that would not be possible in theater. The earliest time points after injury are often the most informative for assessments, such as imaging and biomarkers, and the most effective for interventions, such as neuroprotective agents. Our complementary studies in later stage patients will then take advantage of this early stage information in both the civilian and military populations at NIH (link is external) and WRNMMC (link is external), respectively. These later stage civilian studies will include re-contact of patients from the acute studies or enrollment of a given patient into a study that starts at a local hospital and continues at the NIH.

CNRM Twinbrook Campus, CNRM Twinbrook Building, 12725 Twinbrook Pkwy, Rockville, MarylandA Biospecimen Repository (BR) has been established to house biosamples and associated clinical and other data from participating study sites investigating TBI. Samples will be in the form of frozen human biological specimens. Data will be stored in electronic form and will consist of de-identified clinical history, neuroimaging findings, and laboratory data. Current protocols permit the holding in the BR of whole blood, plasma, serum and white blood cells obtained from TBI subjects and appropriate control subjects. Approval for additional types of biospecimens may be obtained in the future. Purpose It is hoped that the stored biospecimens and associated clinical data will assist in the development of a much needed new taxonomy for TBI that will aid in improving research inclusion criteria, provide better prediction of clinical outcomes, and contribute to the development of relevant monitoring of outcomes following therapeutic interventions in TBI.

Aversion Technologies

12220 Maycheck Lane Bowie, Maryland 20715 USAAversion Technologies offers naturally occurring compounds and synthetic chemicals to companies around the world. These specialty chemicals are added to products making them unpalatable to humans and animals. This is a very effective way of protecting children and pets from consuming dangerous goods (antifreeze and household cleaners). Typically, exposure to aversives results in future avoidance. This behavior modification leads to long-term protection of people, pets and plants. Chief among our products are the naturally occurring bitterants colocynth and andrographolide, the synthetic bitterants denatonium benzoate and denatonium saccharide; the naturally hot and spicy capsaicin derived from hot peppers and nonivamide, its synthetic analogue. Repela™ is a unique solution for deterring animals from chewing plastic materials, such as electric and fiber optic cables, or plastic pipes. Repela is currently available in four carriers: microcrystalline wax, polyethylene, propylene glycol, and polyvinyl chloride. We will soon be releasing an LDPE version and other masterbatch carriers will follow. Typical concentrations of active ingredients range from 25% to 50%, and are custom blended to meet our customer's specific needs. Any of our herbs and chemicals can be used as an additive, rendering a product inedible, and thereby, safe. Denatonium benzoate is commonly used as an additive in antifreeze and household cleaners to prevent consumption, and synthetic capsaicin (nonivamide) is used in pepper sprays.
