Within these, life science that dominates R&D&I activities. The scientific areas connected to the Ph.D. programme are basic, clinical, molecular, and multidisciplinary medicine, pharmaceutical sciences, mental health sciences, and pathological sciences. Social science research is employed in the areas of mental health and sport science. The diversity and full spectrum of the University’s R&D&I activities – especially in life science and, within that, medical science – is illustrated by the Research University project’s broad range of research topics. The grant’s research work was organised into four R&D&I modules and one integrative module. R&D and training synergies are realised at Semmelweis University in several ways. R&D&I results quickly make their way into clinical and health sciences as well as into the University’s educational activities and the curriculum. The synergies also manifest themselves in the various specialised networks operating at the University (e.g. nanotechnology, bioimaging, genomics, biobank), as well as in the research university modules (diagnostics, technology, therapy, prevention) and the dynamic collaborations which have been developing within these areas. Semmelweis University’s large collection of academic journals – which are available in their entirety to Semmelweis University faculty, researchers, students, and staff – also supports R&D activities. In addition to the printed material, online resources (databases, full text e-journals, e-books, etc.) may be accessed both on-campus (within the University’s IP range) and off-campus (through a VPN connection). The Central Library provides access to more than 5000 full text e-journals and numerous specialised databases (relevant sources from EISZ, OVID Technology, Proquest, etc.) through its website.
