20 Cutten Place Guelph Ontario N1G 4Z7Founded in 1980 by Irish biochemist and entrepreneur Dr. Pearse Lyons, Alltech is a leading global biotechnology company whose mission is to improve the health and performance of people, animals and plants through natural nutrition and scientific innovation. We pursue this mission guided by what we call the ACE principle, our promise that in doing business we have a positive impact on the Animal, the Consumer and the Environment. Animal Health Our core business improves animal health and performance by adding nutritional value to feed, naturally, through Alltech’s innovative use of yeast fermentation, enzyme technology, algae and nutrigenomics, which studies the impact of nutrition at the genetic level. Our technologies and support programs enable farmers to realize greater efficiency, profitability and sustainability on their farms. Alltech Crop Science Our Alltech Crop Science division complements our animal nutrition business by focusing on improving the health of crops. Our technologies enable us to improve the productivity of the field, in terms of yield quality and quantity, and to enhance nutrition beginning with the soil and the seed. Human Health We believe scientific innovation in animal and crop sciences is part of a much more important story, that of human health. Healthier animals and crops, nurtured naturally through Alltech’s nutritional solutions, affect human well-being. For example, fruits, vegetables and animal proteins have become less nutrient-rich in the past half-century. From fish to oranges, you need to eat more today to get the same nutritional value. Our work within animal and crop sciences is restoring value and also exploring ways to naturally enrich foods through improving the animal diet or crop produced. For example, laying hens fed a diet rich in Alltech’s algae produce eggs enriched with DHA omega-3, an essential nutrient for human cognitive development and health at all ages.

University Health Network - Toronto Western Hospital Division of Neurosurgery, 4W-423 399 Bathurst Street Toronto, Ontario M5T 2S8The Canadian Virtual Brain Tumour Bank (CVBTB) is a national brain tumour banking resource that serves to further clinical, molecular and translational research. Under sponsorship with Schering-Plough Canada and in association with the Canadian Brain Tumour Consortium (CBTC), the CVBTB was created to provide research and academic communities easier access to high quality samples across the country. An informative, user-friendly and easy-to-navigate website, the CVBTB links brain tumour sample holdings from established brain tumour banks in Canada. As a virtual bank, the CVBTB does not store actual brain tumour samples but rather acts as a central point of access allowing researchers to query specific brain tumour samples. Once queries are completed, the CVBTB helps to coordinate the delivery of samples between researchers and respective tumour banks. The CVBTB also acts as a brain tumour banking resource by providing assistance on standardized operating procedures on procedures such as tissue sample accrual, tissue sample storage, blood and lymphocyte processing and tissue sample delivery. Under the collaboration of neurooncologists, ethics advisors, neuropathologists and technicians, the CVBTB hopes to play a large role in furthering brain tumour research and to make an impact both on a national and global scale.

Ontario Institute for Cancer Research MaRS Centre 661 University Avenue, Suite 510 Toronto, Ontario, Canada M5G 0A3The Ontario Tumour Bank (OTB) provides a viable solution for cancer researchers who often face challenges in obtaining the quality and number of biospecimens required for their studies. In doing so, OTB accelerates cancer research for the development of better patient diagnostics and therapies. Vision Scientific and technological advances in genomics, proteomics, and bioinformatics are providing new insight into the cause and treatment of cancer. The analysis of human tumours offers academic and industry researchers a window into the molecular and genetic world of cancer. Through the analysis of tumours, researchers have learned about the molecular makeup of tumours, discovered biomarkers that are characteristic of tumours and identified genes responsible for specific cancers. This knowledge creates exciting possibilities for the creation of new diagnostic and prognostic tools and for the identification of targets for new drug therapies. In order for the potential of the genomics revolution to be realized, research scientists and clinicians must analyze the molecular makeup of large numbers of human tumour tissues. Although researchers can use models of the disease such as cell lines and animal tumours, at some point it becomes essential to study human tissues to understand how a disease like cancer develops in humans. Thus, researchers require access to collections of well-preserved and well-characterized tumour tissue accompanied by high-quality clinical data. Biospecimens are the key to the development and testing of next-generation diagnostics and treatments. OTB makes this type of research possible by providing the materials needed to drive high-impact studies.

University of Toronto 160 College Street, Room 230 Toronto, Ontario, M5S 3E1 CanadaIn the late 90s, there was no human genome sequence, no wide-spread stem cell technologies, and DNA sequencing was slow and expensive. However, University of Toronto Professors Cecil Yip and James Friesen foresaw that new genomic technologies would open up massive progress in biomedical research. Anticipating the growing need for interdisciplinary approaches, they envisioned a research institute where all boundaries in research could be lifted. Thanks to an investment from the Government of Canada, the province of Ontario, private sector companies and Terrence J. Donnelly, a philanthropist with a vision, that revolutionary idea materialized into a world-renowned institute for biomedical research – the Donnelly Centre. On November 5, 2005 the Donnelly Centre for Cellular and Biomolecular Research opened its doors to world-class researchers in biology, computer science, engineering, chemistry and pharmacy under one joint roof, where they could feed off each other’s expertise and creativity to decipher the biology behind the world's most devastating diseases.

2075 Bayview Avenue, M7 122 Toronto, ON, M4N 3M5 CanadaThe capacity to create novel devices is a cornerstone of medical innovation. In Sunnybrook Research Institute's device development laboratory—Canada's first of this scope based in a hospital—scientists and engineers are designing and producing complex medical devices under highly controlled conditions. The overarching aim is to design more effective and safer ways to detect disease, deliver therapy and guide interventions. Devices are then tested for proof of principle and, if successful, clinically, in collaboration with other researchers and clinicians. Ultimately, our aim is to commercialize the devices we invent, so we can move them into the medical marketplace to benefit patients. Main goals are as follows: To accelerate development of clinically relevant medical devices for large-scale or orphan applications To design, fabricate, test and validate candidate devices efficiently To create a centre of expertise for teaching skills related to device development, preclinical testing and validation To provide facilities and expertise that enable commercialization of new devices
2075 Bayview Avenue, C7 35c Toronto, ON, M4N 3M5 CanadaThe quality, speed and cost of generating and analyzing genomic data is increasingly crucial to researchers as they seek to develop personalized treatments for complex diseases like cancer and heart disease. 2075 Bayview Avenue Toronto, ON, M4N 3M5 CanadaIn this facility, research teams are making new biological agents for cell-based therapies and vaccines that target dysfunctional immune systems, heart disease and cancer. Having immediate access to this strictly controlled environment ensures that quality is built into each step of the cell design and manufacturing process. This guarantees that products developed in the lab are safe, pure and effective for clinical testing. Building this lab will help move preclinical findings—such as the landmark discovery by Dr. Juan Carlos Zúñiga-Pflücker of how to generate stem cells in the lab, and coax them into becoming mature T cells, toward rebuilding damaged immune systems—faster and more efficiently to the clinic. Sunnybrook Research Institute is at the forefront of inventing methods and technologies to generate new cell types from stem cells or other stem-cell-like cells, and to re-educate cells. With this facility, we are taking it up a significant notch; our biological scientists, who are developing preclinical models, are working with clinicians-scientists, who can test the efficacy of these models in patients. Similarly, imaging scientists who have developed ways to track and evaluate the efficacy of these cells in preclinical models are interacting with clinician-scientists to track and evaluate the efficacy of these cell therapies in patients. In each case, the cGMP lab is an essential step in the translational research process.

The Contract Research Map is owned and maintained by Scientist.com. It was created to help researchers in the life sciences identify and connect with contract research organizations (CROs) based on geography. Updated nightly, this map features all of the available CROs within our network, so you can order services with a few clicks. Click on a specific country, scroll on the map itself or type into the search bar at the top—there are many ways to find the location and suppliers that you’re looking for. From Argentina to New Zealand, use this map to connect with a CRO near you.
We believe that every researcher across the world should be able to connect with the thousands of global CROs that exist and have the opportunity to work together. Like many industries, the life science supply chain has been disrupted over the last year. But there are many other circumstances such as international customs regulations or sensitive shipping times that create limitations around which countries are feasible to partner with. Sometimes, finding a CRO based in a country that best suits your research needs is imperative. We hope this contract research map allows you to find the right partner in the right place at the right time.
Have questions or feedback? We’d love to help. You can find our FAQs and contact information on the Learn more page.
