Ontario Institute for Cancer Research MaRS Centre 661 University Avenue, Suite 510 Toronto, Ontario, Canada M5G 0A3The Ontario Tumour Bank (OTB) provides a viable solution for cancer researchers who often face challenges in obtaining the quality and number of biospecimens required for their studies. In doing so, OTB accelerates cancer research for the development of better patient diagnostics and therapies. Vision Scientific and technological advances in genomics, proteomics, and bioinformatics are providing new insight into the cause and treatment of cancer. The analysis of human tumours offers academic and industry researchers a window into the molecular and genetic world of cancer. Through the analysis of tumours, researchers have learned about the molecular makeup of tumours, discovered biomarkers that are characteristic of tumours and identified genes responsible for specific cancers. This knowledge creates exciting possibilities for the creation of new diagnostic and prognostic tools and for the identification of targets for new drug therapies. In order for the potential of the genomics revolution to be realized, research scientists and clinicians must analyze the molecular makeup of large numbers of human tumour tissues. Although researchers can use models of the disease such as cell lines and animal tumours, at some point it becomes essential to study human tissues to understand how a disease like cancer develops in humans. Thus, researchers require access to collections of well-preserved and well-characterized tumour tissue accompanied by high-quality clinical data. Biospecimens are the key to the development and testing of next-generation diagnostics and treatments. OTB makes this type of research possible by providing the materials needed to drive high-impact studies.

Faculty of Medicine Ottawa, ON, K1N 6N5 CanadaThe Faculty of Medicine's 'Common Equipment and Technical Core Facility' was established to optimize technical resources and common 'shared' equipment within the Departments of BMI and CMM. The Core Facility encompasses infrastructure and technical services from both of these departments in an attempt to meet the research needs of investigators and students. It is operated by a team of 4 Technical Officers who are committed to providing quality technical assistance to faculty members and research personnel. In addition, the technical staff aims to manage and maintain the common equipment at its optimal level of performance. Most laboratories do not own the type of equipment that constitute the basic framework of the Core Facility, therefore, operating and maintaining a Common Equipment Core with 'shared' equipment that is in a state of operational readiness and peak performance is essential to the efficiency and success of every principal investigator and his/her laboratory members. Researchers therefore, depend and rely on the optimal functionality of these common scientific instruments. The equipment provided by the Core Facility allows research personnel the opportunity to use a wide variety of equipment that is well maintained, eliminating the need to purchase and maintain these pieces within individual labs. The 'Common Equipment and Technical Core Facility' can be separated into two distinctive categories: The Technical Core Services which refer to technical assistance and services provided by the technical staff.

25 Templeton St, Room 350 Ottawa, ON, K1N 6N5 CanadaPhotonics embraces the science and technology of light: its interaction with matter and the technology for its generation, manipulation, transmission and detection. Photonics research is revolutionising our lives like the preceding electronic and digital revolutions. Applications of photonics are diverse from communications and entertainment systems in homes to uses in biology, quantum computation, medicine, environmental sensing, green technologies and many other aspects of our everyday lives. Examples include the near-instantaneous transmission around the globe of voice, video and data on lightwaves, laser scanners reading bar codes on everything such as goods in a supermarket to luggage in airports, and surgeons utilizing lasers in surgery rather than scalpels. Despite the ubiquitous penetration of photonics, challenges remain, be they at the level of applications where, for example, improvements are continuously sought to optical telecommunications equipment, solar cells, and optical biosensors; or at the level of fundamentals where, for example, greater understanding is sought on how light interacts with matter at extreme time and spatial scales or on how quantum states of light can be formed and utilised. To meet such challenges, the University of Ottawa established the world-class Centre for Research in Photonics (CRPuO) founded on strengths within our Faculties of Engineering and Science.

University of Toronto 160 College Street, Room 230 Toronto, Ontario, M5S 3E1 CanadaIn the late 90s, there was no human genome sequence, no wide-spread stem cell technologies, and DNA sequencing was slow and expensive. However, University of Toronto Professors Cecil Yip and James Friesen foresaw that new genomic technologies would open up massive progress in biomedical research. Anticipating the growing need for interdisciplinary approaches, they envisioned a research institute where all boundaries in research could be lifted. Thanks to an investment from the Government of Canada, the province of Ontario, private sector companies and Terrence J. Donnelly, a philanthropist with a vision, that revolutionary idea materialized into a world-renowned institute for biomedical research – the Donnelly Centre. On November 5, 2005 the Donnelly Centre for Cellular and Biomolecular Research opened its doors to world-class researchers in biology, computer science, engineering, chemistry and pharmacy under one joint roof, where they could feed off each other’s expertise and creativity to decipher the biology behind the world's most devastating diseases.

2075 Bayview Avenue Toronto, ON, M4N 3M5 CanadaIn this facility, research teams are making new biological agents for cell-based therapies and vaccines that target dysfunctional immune systems, heart disease and cancer. Having immediate access to this strictly controlled environment ensures that quality is built into each step of the cell design and manufacturing process. This guarantees that products developed in the lab are safe, pure and effective for clinical testing. Building this lab will help move preclinical findings—such as the landmark discovery by Dr. Juan Carlos Zúñiga-Pflücker of how to generate stem cells in the lab, and coax them into becoming mature T cells, toward rebuilding damaged immune systems—faster and more efficiently to the clinic. Sunnybrook Research Institute is at the forefront of inventing methods and technologies to generate new cell types from stem cells or other stem-cell-like cells, and to re-educate cells. With this facility, we are taking it up a significant notch; our biological scientists, who are developing preclinical models, are working with clinicians-scientists, who can test the efficacy of these models in patients. Similarly, imaging scientists who have developed ways to track and evaluate the efficacy of these cells in preclinical models are interacting with clinician-scientists to track and evaluate the efficacy of these cell therapies in patients. In each case, the cGMP lab is an essential step in the translational research process.

20 Cutten Place Guelph Ontario N1G 4Z7Founded in 1980 by Irish biochemist and entrepreneur Dr. Pearse Lyons, Alltech is a leading global biotechnology company whose mission is to improve the health and performance of people, animals and plants through natural nutrition and scientific innovation. We pursue this mission guided by what we call the ACE principle, our promise that in doing business we have a positive impact on the Animal, the Consumer and the Environment. Animal Health Our core business improves animal health and performance by adding nutritional value to feed, naturally, through Alltech’s innovative use of yeast fermentation, enzyme technology, algae and nutrigenomics, which studies the impact of nutrition at the genetic level. Our technologies and support programs enable farmers to realize greater efficiency, profitability and sustainability on their farms. Alltech Crop Science Our Alltech Crop Science division complements our animal nutrition business by focusing on improving the health of crops. Our technologies enable us to improve the productivity of the field, in terms of yield quality and quantity, and to enhance nutrition beginning with the soil and the seed. Human Health We believe scientific innovation in animal and crop sciences is part of a much more important story, that of human health. Healthier animals and crops, nurtured naturally through Alltech’s nutritional solutions, affect human well-being. For example, fruits, vegetables and animal proteins have become less nutrient-rich in the past half-century. From fish to oranges, you need to eat more today to get the same nutritional value. Our work within animal and crop sciences is restoring value and also exploring ways to naturally enrich foods through improving the animal diet or crop produced. For example, laying hens fed a diet rich in Alltech’s algae produce eggs enriched with DHA omega-3, an essential nutrient for human cognitive development and health at all ages.

The Contract Research Map is owned and maintained by Scientist.com. It was created to help researchers in the life sciences identify and connect with contract research organizations (CROs) based on geography. Updated nightly, this map features all of the available CROs within our network, so you can order services with a few clicks. Click on a specific country, scroll on the map itself or type into the search bar at the top—there are many ways to find the location and suppliers that you’re looking for. From Argentina to New Zealand, use this map to connect with a CRO near you.
We believe that every researcher across the world should be able to connect with the thousands of global CROs that exist and have the opportunity to work together. Like many industries, the life science supply chain has been disrupted over the last year. But there are many other circumstances such as international customs regulations or sensitive shipping times that create limitations around which countries are feasible to partner with. Sometimes, finding a CRO based in a country that best suits your research needs is imperative. We hope this contract research map allows you to find the right partner in the right place at the right time.
Have questions or feedback? We’d love to help. You can find our FAQs and contact information on the Learn more page.
